Did you have to adjust a backing nut for each magnet or did you just set them 
all the same and rely on the mount to flex a bit?
Seems difficult to adjust magnet nuts in the center of the array as they would 
be under the mounting plate, right?

We followed the Magnemount design and took a typical 5'x5' non-pen and drilled 
holes in it and put
a lot of magnets on it. The magnets had pretty long bolts on them so we used 
that to adjust each 
magnet so it would still sit flat on a curved surface.

It's been holding a 2ft dish just fine for a couple years now.

    Have you ever looked at Magnemount?  They stack them together and make it 
as a plate to increase surface mount.
