Don't worry about it too much. People who try to make AGI will soon find that, if it is effective, it will end up much more rational than we can ever be. So after a while it will spout 'unacceptable' things like: There are two genders, race and gender is not a social construct, there is a difference in the distribution of traits between men and women, equity leads to tyranny. Similarly for the other 'side': No race is inferior, believing in invisible men in the sky is nonsensical etc.
This will mean that AI development will move faster among those who lie to themselves the least. At least i think so, an actual proof is hard to come by. As for Dr. Goertzel, i can't speak for him, but from what I've seen he doesn't seem to agree with communist ideas, since he usually talks highly of decentralization and self-empowerment. These are central anarchist ideals, whereas communists want central control of resources and decision making more than anything. We shouldn't worry about leftists hijacking AI development, we should worry about how to create these decentralized networks and decision making systems, which (let's say as a conjecture) will be much more powerful and efficient, thus prevailing over their alternatives. Then they will be impossible to stop or contest, except with mass persecution from governments. It seems a bit too early for that. At least i don't feel ready to involve myself in such infrastructure, because there aren't as many applications that are really useful and promise to transform human life. I suspect there will be in 10-15 years though. The groundwork is being laid right now (e.g. blockchain), but the population isn't eager. They never are. I don't know if they will ever be. It will be welcomed if and only if their neighbor gets more status or wealth by using these technologies, and they are easy to use. We can be pretty sure governments will resist these kinds of changes greatly, since they control human life at gunpoint. That's actually my biggest fear. The following is not AGI relevant. What i would worry the most two things: a) The short term danger of tyranny and oppression threatened by these radical left-wing forces. I think we are winning on this one. The only problem is that they are relentless, so they achieve small victories here and there all the time, but their true colors are getting more and more exposed. A useful prank being used lately is by baiting leftists to call racism or sexism on completely innocent everyday things. For example, there is a campaign on 4chan to make leftists call the victory gesture as a 'two genders' gesture. Or that driving a car with your elbow out is a racist move, because you do it so the cops will see you are white and not stop you. These kinds of bait work with leftists. The same happened with the Pepe the frog meme. b)The prospect that very authoritarian Governments will overtake us in terms of efficiency and wealth, because of all the dumb perturbations these Communists cause. As we fight each other over meaningless things, the dominant force of societal organization might turn out to be the Chinese or Saudi Arabian model, which will be terrible for human freedom.
