Why don't you say something that is both thought provoking and compelling then. Disparaging everyone in the group is neither. I have found that while trying to reply to people who seem to act as if they were amongst the foremost experts on the subject that I often come up with new insights that I hadn't considered before. This is true whether the person is a good teacher or not, whether he is insightful or not. The insights that I have come up with in response to some repeated exaggerations can usually be reduced to something that common sense (borne of experience in the field) would make apparent, but those reductions can casually strip the insight right off the idea. So even though I have not come up with many radical new truths in these conversations I have come up with many new ways of seeing some aspect of the problem and some parts of the solution. I suppose that criticisms I have made about Mike might be applied to anyone but even if that were true there is a still a matter of degree of exaggeration and of utility of supposed solutions.
