Hi all, I have been learning a LOT while looking for funding - which suggests we should all rethink our respective directions.
The Jobs 2012 act made it possible to crowdfund projects not exceeding $10M without going through the whole SEC public offering hassle. Then along came sites like Kickstarter with their own visions for the future which does NOT include larger visions like those shared here. However, there are places like EquityNet in which larger ideas appear fundable, provided they don't bump up against $10M. When you look at ENTIRE projects including marketing, patent defense, etc., rather than just getting to a demo, $10M is really tight no matter what you are doing, especially if it involves any R&D. My own project to take over the Internet projected $10M when everything foreseeable was added in. So, I had an idea for an end-around where many of us here could get rich - and be well paid as we get rich. Further, this will provide a stepping stone to even bigger things - maybe even an eventual AGI. Chop my project up into the separately marketable pieces needed to make the system to take over the Internet, and construct them in separately funded corporations under a single umbrella. This way, each startup would be going into this with guaranteed customers, etc. The separate startups would include: 1. The core parsing and recognition technology 2. A smart web crawler that also gathers contact information, etc. 3. An idiom database with a few thousand common idioms and equivalent straightforward text 4. A medical database ala DrEliza only greatly extended 5. An AI marketing organization 6. An Internet sales organization 7. etc. Note that these pieces can be combined in various ways to make several strong products, e.g. NO ONE is going to write good code to understand text without the idiom database - and nothing like it now exists. To make this work for you, we would work together to create a crowdfundable entity that you would be in charge of, to actually get paid well to do the work on the part of this project that you choose. These would be presented together as a package, but each would also have a marketing plan to survive and thrive outside of the package. This way, you would start with a salary and customers waiting, rather than building something for nothing, in the hope that customers will come, and further, there would have patent protection for at least some parts of these projects. Once you get your part up and running, you will have both money and credibility to build your own projects, rather than pieces of something else.
