Larry mentioned that turmeric will give the same color as saffron.
One often hears that monks have saffron colored robes. I've always assumed that, given the cost of saffron and the presumably low wages of monks, that the robes must have been dyed with something other than saffron, perhaps turmeric or an aniline dye. If I dye my clothing with turmeric, will I end up walking around smelling like inexpensive hot dog mustard? Jim McKenney
