The reason(s) I haven't purchased a developer phone yet is I wasn't
overly impressed with the G1 and wanted to see what the Sony and Samsung
Android phones are like first. Second, I'm on AT&T with a years worth
of rollover anytime minutes (I don't use my phone very much) and there
seems to be problems using the G1 with AT&T. With more Android phones
coming on the market we're going to have to rely on the emulator to be
good enough because unless you are a huge company you can't justify
having each phone. I've been developing for PDAs starting with the Palm
over 11 years ago. I bought one Palm device and one Pocket PC.
Everything else has been done via emulator or simulator.

Before I dove into Android I built an app for the Samsung Instinct using
Sprint's development kit and LWUIT and that took two weeks from start to
beta. Took a bit longer for Android. And if I recall right Sprint had
a month to month developer phone plan for about $30 a month. I will
probably complete those projects too and make them available to my
customers (some who have Instinct phones).
