Yes but it is true that Google apps (maps, gmail, gcalendar, market, youtube, ...) are an important part of what "we" call Android. I do not have a G1, and have android ported on a Neo Freerunner. Android is really amputed without all these apps. And these apps not being opened is one thing, but they are not even available as binaries !!
