Not everyone with a G1 is a developer. If it were just a matter of recompiling, I might try playing around with it but since I don't know Java I wouldn't be able to create an Android interface/app even if it (Bochs, etc.) would technically run. Porting something to Android doesn't look like a minor task. If it were easy, I imagine we'd be able to re-use all the programs from the various OpenEmbedded distros by now - my Zaurus has better software than my Android, even with what I can find for paid apps. (Well, except for the wifi, gps and accelerometer stuff. Which is all very cool but the socially networked and real-time apps are fairly useless to me personally.) If it should ever be an option, I'd happily replace Android with Angstrom. I bought a Linux-based phone because I actually like Linux. And yes, I do realize that I'm a tiny minority, since the whole world is rushing to put Android on everything. But until there is an option, I'll keep watching Android development.
