Aaron,

You'll be happy to know that I am just in the process of Alpha testing a website that does exactly what you are talking about... but don't let that stop you if you want to do it. I'll even share some data with you if you want it. The more options developers have the better it will be. Some, like Tim, will only want to deal with one market, but others want choices.

Mark Murphy also has an initiative going to create a standard for Application Meta Data that should allow developers to easily upload their apps to many stores. I'm sure he will chime in on this thread to let you know about it :).

If anyone is willing to test my site and leave some feedback, it would be much appreciated. I'm just in the process of getting ready to upload the Developer Dashboard section of the site. It should be there in about 5 or 6 hours. URL is http://nocrappyapps.com if anyone has any spare time later today or later in the week.

Sincerely,

Brad Gies

Sounds like the perfect opportunity for a "proxy publisher" for
Android applications. For example, somebody could register domain
www.ProxyAndroid.com and use it to allow developers to easily publish
to each of the app stores.

Great, now I have to convince myself not to go out and register that
domain (it's currently available :-).

In the end, competition is almost always good for the consumer. For
example, how will GMail one-up Facebook's announcement of offering
email to keep people on GMail. There's a potential huge ad revenue
loss to Google.

I just got an email saying Toshiba are launching yet another app store
with Handster (whoever they are). This means that there is now (or
will be) at least:

The offficial Google market
Verizon "V Cast" market
Toshiba/Handster market
Vodafone 360 store
Getjar
and lots of other smaller ones.

None of these seem to offer anything particularly new, and all, afaik,
use 70/30 revenue sharing. As a developer I don't want to have to
upload my app a million times, and I don't want users to have to
search many app stores for apps. Finally, I don't really want Google
to lose their leverage over Android to the likes of Verizon and
Vodafone. Therefore I'm not going to upload my app to anywhere other
than the Android Marketplace.
