I only publish on the Android Market and on my own web site. On my own
site I use of the Digital River's shareware companies for handling
purchases. It's hassle enough to update the app two ways: one for the
Market and one for my own sales. And yes I get the "gold rush" spam all
the time to for "new" Android markets.

Alternative stores aren't likely to go away, not just because of

Most tablets are not Google approved and won't have the Android
Market. For example, If you want to be on the Barnes and Noble Color
Nook, you should probably be in the Barnes and Noble store. Yes,
there are ways to hack the Android Market onto devices, and there are
web based stores, but most users will probably use whatever store is
on their device.
I see these challenges with feeding multiple stores:
1. Keeping the app in sync.
2. Keeping the app details in sync.
3. Implementing licensing/security for each of the stores.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I see #3 as one of the biggest
challenges. It seems you would have to have licensing code for all the
options in one binary, or different versions for each store/licensing
system.
