The thing is, marketing was looking at it that way because it was the
best predictor as to whether the game would sell.

If I were a critic, I'd be totally harsh to most games, and I'd probably
be fired. (I'm a game developer.) I'd want to use the entire scale,
unlike most ad-supported review sites that seem to forget about the
numbers 1-6 on a scale of 1-10, since anything rated that low would
alienate one of the advertisers that pays for the site.

But most users AREN'T critics, and when someone enjoys something, they
are likely to rate it 5 stars. Similarly, when they're annoyed, they'll
take out their aggression by rating it 1 star. "The developer wants me
to PAY for some of the content! He's not giving EVERYTHING away for
free! How dare he!"

In other news, I've had exactly "88396 total installs" on the developer
console for over two days...despite having nearly two thousand installs
per day for the past few days. Something seems to be stuck again. :/
