The effort would be to enter the BIOS setup screen during boot
sequence by pressing <del> or another key and looking for the page
to disable "shadow ram" for the BIOS ROM and the video ROM. Then you
could try out, if the performance of your computer is worse than
before, and if not - well, you've got another 64k free in the UMB's
to stuff something else in there...

My opinion is that memory should be used if it's there and not kept
free for something that will never happen... ;-)
