Sergei,
Getting on the web thru Compuserve is rather convoluted and that is why I
want Steve Evans to post his ARACHNE.CFG. If you log onto Compuserve, you
*can't* get on the web, but you can FTP, Telnet, etc., except *browse* the
www. The exception is, I think, using Compuserve's proprietary software, you
can browse the web.
To get on the web thru Compuserve, you have to use Compuserve as a gateway
much as you enter a house thru a door. You are either outside the house, or
after you pass thru the door, you are inside the house, but if you linger in
the doorway, you are neither inside the house nor outside the house. Such is
the way it is with Compuserve.
As can be seen by the header on this post, I am using Compuserve to send
this e-mail. I also use Arachne thru the Compuserve gateway and have no
problem. I also do not use the proprietary software.

if your start page on Compuserve has the base name www.compuserve.com or
www6.compuserve.com they both have the same IP address 149.174.144.32
For Freewwweb the situation is different a little - there are two IP
216.70.93.172 and 216.70.93.139 for the single name www.freewwweb.com.
Set NameServer and AltNameServer in arachne.cfg to 0.0.0.0, set Gateway
and AltGateway to 0.0.0.0, set Netmask to 0.0.0.0, set UseProxy No and
set ; at first pos. of Homepage string (disable homepage). ...<<
