Is there any proof that SmartDrv is slower than NCache?

Those certain actions are when core.exe exits and some other program "takes
over" (insight.exe for instance).
This is becuase Arachne doesn't know your IP, DNS etc. and will ask the
DHCP/BOOTP server for details. If you are on a "real" LAN you will barely
notice this since it goes by so fast, xDSL and Cable modems aren't that fast.

To "fix" this you will need to find out if you always get the same IP, DNS
etc (rather likely).
The easiest way (that I know of) is to use ftp.exe (IIRC) from the
telnet.apm package.

Another sollution would be setting another computer running Linux in
between (your machine and the cable modem) that runs IP masquerade, then
your IP will always be the same (you set it yourself) and the Linux machine
will not change IP often either (perhaps at start-up).

Now I haven't come as far as getting Linux to recognize my NIC so I can't
help you there :/
