Nearly everyone agreed that smallpox was bad, except for those who could
see its usefulness for conducting genocide campaigns. Some of the
European settlers in the Americas deliberately traded infected blankets
to the native indigenous peoples in hopes of wiping out the race. Those
who plied such trade were themselves immune, as they had previously been
exposed to the virus and survived it.
Nearly everyone can agree that Java Script, or poorly written Java Script
is bad, except for those who seek the eradication of non Java-compatible
browsers. This was the basis of the analogy. As far as the general
welfare of the human race is concerned it would be better to eliminate
Java Script altogether, as though it were like smallpox, even though some
people could selfishly benefit from its further spread.
