There are 3 ways you can connect to your ISP with Arachne. First,
(obviously) is the manual login like you are already doing. After
you enter your password you will probably see what are commonly
described as "garbage characters" (lots of {{{ brackets and some
other characters). When you see these hit F7 or ALT-P and the packet
driver should load and Arachne will reappear and your home page
should start downloading if everything is working correctly.
It is a good idea to get everything working manually before
setting up for terminal autologin or PAP/CHAP authentication. Second,
you can go to the Arachne Internal PPP manual setup and enter
the prompts you see during manual login and your responses you enter
in the appropriate blocks of the autologin section. Also remove the
extra hyphens in the unused prompts/response boxes. Make sure you
have the Show Terminal option enabled till you get everything working
and then you can disable this and you won't have to watch the login
process. Third, if your ISP supports PAP/CHAP authentication you only
need to enter your username and password in the PAP/CHAP section and
enable autologin or you can watch the login in terminal and simply
hit F7 or ALT-P when you see the connect message from your modem.
Once you get the manual login working you can try the autologin
and/or PAP/CHAP authentication as described. I hope this helps.
