Well, I did not know my ISP supported PAP/CHAP until I tried Steve
Lawson's Goin' Postal email program. It uses PAP/CHAP by default and
it worked the first time I tried it even though I was going to do a
manual login the first time and then write a custom script. After
that I started using Arachne with PAP/CHAP as it appears to be
slightly faster logging on. BTW, PAP/CHAP works for me on FreeWWWeb
on the local dialup number I use. I think a lot of users (like
myself) are not aware of whether their ISP support PAP/CHAP or even
what it is, especially a Windows user trying Arachne for the first
time. I am not going to be a hardhead about my original suggestion,
but I think there are some advantages to doing the manual login for
first time users.

Thanks, Bernie. I always count on other experienced users to monitor
the quality of my posts to newbies since I am usually working from
memory and, as we age, I know the memory is the first faculty to go
and I can't remember what the second one is. ;)

If at first you do succeed, try not to look astonished.
