I never have seen exotic characters. It appears to be in a unix environment,
I type in help and get all sorts of commands I don't really recognize

Hello Jeff:

After you have entered your password, a series of "exotic characters"
should appear.  When this happens press "ALT + P".  Then you will see
briefly a couple of messages, the last one saying "installed packet
driver at vector ..... blah, blah".  Then it should automatically go
back to the browser, and you will be ready to roll.

Did you see the "exotic characters"?  Did you press "ALT + P" when that
happened?
