As some of you may remember, I have been interested in developing
a mini-Linux which winDOS people can use to run the Linux version
of Arachne. Please don't jump on me guys, but it appears that
Michael is now moving in this direction too.

I have now assembled such a mini-Linux. It is available here:

http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~ichi/baslinux.zip
-----------------------------------------------
In addition to the basic Linux stuff, it has a primitive pppsetup
routine and some TCP/IP clients. It will happily dial your ISP,
start PPP and browse the net. The only problem is, at the moment,
the browser is not Arachne.

I would love to use Arachne in this mini-Linux, but I really don't
know how. All my computers use Linux libc5, which is incompatible
with the (latest and greatest) glibc2 that Arachne currently requires.
I did install a glibc2 version of Linux on one of my computers just
to try Arachne, but I must have messed up the SVGAlib stuff (another
mystery to me). All I got was a blank screen. After several hours
of going nowhere, I deleted the entire installation (I just couldn't
stand the glibc2 bloat).

So, at this stage, I am unable to put Arachne into my mini-Linux.

I would welcome input from anyone who is successfully running the
Linux version of Arachne. For a start, I'd like to know how much
space Arachne and all of it's support files (GGI? SVGAlib?) will
need. At the moment there is only about 500k of space available
in the filesystem (although another 500k could probably be freed
up by pruning). Is one meg going to be enough for Arachne?

Cheers,
Steven
