Try going to Tvdog's Dos Internet Archive:
http://www.oldskool.org/~tvdog/internet.html and check out Trumpet. It might
suit your needs. This is a DOS newsreader that supports Ethernet
connections. I don't see why Arachne couldn't call this up, just like
it calls up the other APM's.
Also there are various versions of Doslynx, which is a direct port of
Unix Lynx and should reproduce its functionality.
Or you could get a free shell account somewhere and telnet there with
Arachne and run a newsreader from the shell account.
I'm not much intersted in the Newsgroups myself--it's sort of
like what Yogi Berra said about the popular restaurant in New York:
