I have an idea. ;-)
The Linux people are so full of it that they can't imagine how any non
M$ software could not work. <G>
Check this out:
I had installed Redhat on a new (to me) computer about a month ago.
I finally got X configurated (it wanted a mouse OR ELSE) by installing
a keyboard with a little rollerball. Don't get me wrong, I don't intend
to USE that thing, I just wanted to get X running and see what could be
done with Netscape and the keyboard.
Ok? X worked. It worked pretty good. (well)
I came across a compelling reason to yank the ATI MACH 64 video card and
install a Matrox Millenium II.
Now X wouldn't start.
Now Xconmfigurator says it can't find XF86_SVGA or some such.
Of course it can't. It seems it has deleted it or renamed it to XF86_MACH.
So I made a copy of XF86_MACH named XF86_SVGA and the configurator works
without complaint. I got the system re-configured (by all appearances)
to Matrox video and tried to startX.
Bitch, bitch, bitch. Fatal server error.
Server does not exist (or some such.)
Screen full of crap containing lots of references to MACH 64.
Seems I have to wipe the partition and reload Redhat just to change a
video board. :((~~~~*
