Right, there is your problem. These desktops will slow down your 486 a lot. Your system will be *much* faster if you use a bare window manager. Step 1 - Download baslin15.zip and unzip to DOS directory. Step 2 - Boot (from DOS). Linux will run in ramdisk. Step 3 - Use ramdisk version for a few days/weeks. Step 4 - Prepare HD partition (Linux fdisk and mke2fs). Step 5 - Download install.zip, unzip and go. Step 6 - Download X packages and use 'pkg' to install. Step 7 - Run xf86config (or get generic VGA from me) Step 8 - Download icewm package and use 'pkg' to install. Done.
