<: "Independent Upper Assam" tomorrow I think "Independent Phailand" would be a better name! Here Phai comes from Shuka Phai (as time passed, native-Assamese dropped "i" and added "a" to Shuka -> Shukaa).
The native-Assamese land has been the breeding-ground for "repulsive-mannered" behaviour. Thus, showing them name like "Independent Upper Assam" is as good as predicting doing same thing for ever. What is "same thing" for ever? Among native-Assamese while a group says "Asom" the other group says "Oxom" - then they engage in a repulsive manner, for ever. The native-Assamese land has been the breeding-ground for "parametric-mannered" behaviour too. For example those trying to keep Assam and Oxom in most cases are the people incapable, equivalent to missing parameter, of writing/speaking correct professional Assamese, e.g., Rajen Barua, Wahid, Sanjoy, Zantikam, ... :) It is probably not right to stop anybody creat Independent Phailand because Nalbari, Barpeta, Rangia ... , in total greater Kamrupi land is very poor. The leadership perspective has been hijacked by repulsive-mannered behaviour of the native-Assamese - they are in a loop of brutal engagement. Probably it will be bettr if they can somehow be engaged in creating Independent Phailand. I only wish, we do not go over enthusiastic over "Assam's wealth" concept. Way things are happening and way smaller groups with narrowest of interest have held the state into ransom, 25 years down the line, we should not be surprised to see a demand for "Independent Upper Assam". Please do not forget that every drop of crude is produced by four upper Assam districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivsagar and Jorhat. To our horror, if some "group" begin to say that they are not bothered about people of Rest of Assam ( read Dhemaji, Kokrajhar, Nalbari, Kamrup, Nagaon, Hill Districts and Barak valley) because they are "baggage" for them. Then what will happen? Where do we go? I know it is rubbish. But never forget that if there is a demand for "independent Assam" now then there can be a demand of "Independent Upper Assam" tomorrow. Germination has already started in some minds. I entirely agree with both the Hazarika's. In this number game of politics we can not play significant role. Perhaps we can think of helping each other in at least producing human resources who can be our hope. Assam is unbelievably suffering from leadership crisis in every front, from politics to bureaucracy, from media to entrepreneurship. Mrinal Talukdar
