It is surely for 8-bit opcodes and the first 8 bits of the 12-bit and 16-bit opcodes. The last 4 bits of the 12-bit opcodes is located at bit 16 of the instruction, with a register or a mask preceding it. Some of the 16-bit opcodes have the last 8 bits of the opcode at the end of the instruction, others have those bits immediately following the first 8 bits. -- Tom Marchant
