I disagree... we're talking email here.

If someone has a job where real-time communication is a requirement, 
then they need to get a smartphone with real-time access to their email 
- or find some other solution.

But, of course, if a client pays me to implement vacation 
auto-responders, they can obviously enable/disable them at will. I'll 
just try to make sure that it is as un-obnoxious as possible.
