Mike, have you tried G726 ?
According to the pundits it has pretty good quality
at around half the bandwidth, and uses much less CPU than G723 etc.
It would be nice to get as many channels as a T1 for $50 a pop ! :)

Anyway there is a case for having both DSL and Cable which is
that it's not unusual for either DSL or Cable to go down but it would be very 
unusual
for both to go down at the same time.
