Hey David, don't be shy. Give 'em a plug! I'm in the market for new DSL, and I'd love to hear about good experiences.

Remember there are other DSL providers out there besides Bell.

I have one who sells me a pipe - no spam controls "for my protection", etc.
and whose Terms Of Service actually permit me to run a server. Their
technical support has been OUTSTANDING. Once when a customer failed to get
an email on the Berry, I traced the postfix logs, found the "250" to the
ISP, called them with the ID number, they provided me the "250" message from
their logs with Bell's Blackberry server proving it to be Bell's problem.
All in 10 minutes talking to ONE knowledgeable technician.

My service has only been down for 2 outages totalling 12 hours and one of
them was because I forgot to tell them my CC number when I got a new card so
their auto-billing program shut me off which is certainly not their fault.

There are some good ones out there. You just have to look.

Subject: Re: [on-asterisk] Rogers Cable Internet Vs. Bell ADSL Internet

Henry,

Yes, that was my theory for having both with a load balancing router. But in
5 years I've only had my cable out for maybe 30 hours, an even though it is
DHCP, my IP only changes about once every 6 months. The DSL was nothing but
a headache, poor customer support ( and yes Rogers is no better ), IP
changes anywhere from every few hours to longest of about a week. But when
it changes every few hours it also drops all traffic that was in progress,
which was the real deal breaker for me.
My neighbour has DSL and I have a strong WiFI connection to his network that
in the odd case if the cable goes down, I can just change my gateway IP and
utilize the network bridge.

G726, I've not played with lately, since I really don't need the extra
headroom on the bandwidth. But should give it another look some time soon.

Mike, have you tried G726 ?
According to the pundits it has pretty good quality
at around half the bandwidth, and uses much less CPU than G723 etc.
It would be nice to get as many channels as a T1 for $50 a pop ! :)
Anyway there is a case for having both DSL and Cable which is
that it's not unusual for either DSL or Cable to go down but it would be
very unusual
for both to go down at the same time.

I have both ADSL & Cable (Express not Extreme ) here. I have had many
issues with Bell DSL for voip and almost no issues with Rogers. And with
the added hassles of pppoe, the IP constantly changing and the
connection resetting, So I just cancelled my DSL this month, not worth
the hassle.
I have as many as 4 concurrent G711 calls going and the only time I have
any issue is when a large upload process starts and it takes a few
seconds for the router to throttle the process.

HI you all,
A quick question. Do you guys know which internet service is better in terms
of the quality of voice?
thank you
