I'm sorry, but I don't understand this. Suppose you digitally attenuate
a signal by, say, 24dB. How can you avoid losing the bottom 4 bits?

Or are you saying that, within the SB3, any attenuation less than 30dB
is not done digitally, but is done instead by adjusting the analogue
gain of the DAC's output circuitry?
