I am not a believer in particularly expensive cables, although a
certain level of quality is desirable in connections and the cable.
Quality RGA Belden RG6 cables for example, terminated well will be
nearly as good as anything on the market regardless of price, but I do
think that if you do not really know what you are doing your
solder/crimp connections etc will have problems in time, especially if
you run an audio business like me where you are constantly
disconnecting and reconnecting components you will soon have problems. 


One difference in the communications industry is because of the
protocols used bad packets normally get re sent this does not happen
for the spdif connections we are talking about.
