I think he is using a DVD recorder that has a hard disc in it.  Sounds
like he is recording to the hard disc via line in and burning the
"movie" to a DVD and then uses a PC to strip out the audio soundtrack. 
Sounds like a lot of work.  Plus, the sampling rate has to be adjusted
on the ripping stage from 48kHz to 44 kHz.

Regarding the ADSTech box - I bought one of these a couple of years ago
and ended up bringing right back to the store (CompUSA).  Perhaps they
have improved, but I thought it was a piece of junk.  The biggest
problem I had was it didn't have the ability to adjust the recording
level.  The driver also crashed multiple times on my laptop.

I use a Yamaha soundcard in my PC to record and digitize vinyl and
tapes.  The issue with cheap PC soundcards is noise level.
