So, I guess we all agree that toslink is okay but that some (not all) manufacturers' implementation of it is a joke. Probably coax works better in "problem toslink" boxes because it's cheaper to build it to a more acceptable level of quality.
a-rt, when you state "toslink is a joke" I read it like that and don't agree; I now think what you meant was that people trying sm glass fiber etc. to make it sound better are a joke. I do agree to that but hey they buy silver ethernet cables too although using sm fiber on mm interfaces actually degrade the signal transfer while silver ethernet cables don't degrade so all one looses there is some $$$. The question now is: how good are the SB toslink implementations as compared to, let's say the Benchmark DAC. Would it be the actual toslink transmitters & receivers used that make the difference or is it the buffering & reclocking in the DAC's that make it better. I do not know if the Benchmark does buffering & reclocking but I think it does. Also, I guess that manufacturers buy ready-to-plug toslink modules for their designs. cheers, Nick. -- DeVerm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ DeVerm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18104 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52817 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
