At some point you have to acknowledge that not everyone agrees with you
in this - its a premise of this entire discussion - like it or not. 

Anyway. The point is that USB is a better protocol and using it avoids
the hoops one has to go through to achieve something similar over an
spdif-link. Adsitionally I suspekt the hardware costs of USB are as
insignificant as for spdif. I have only little knowledge inside the
electronics enterprises, so I wont predict, but a shift to USB makes
sense.
