Once again I am reminded of why I am a reformed audiophile. Audiophiles
simply refuse to look at all the evidence staring them right in the
face. However what really troubles me is that reasonably priced, well
made audio equipment is becoming a thing of the past as manufacturers
either opt to serve the mass market that listens to music via their
smart phones and Bluetooth or the high end market which is now a luxury
goods market. Even stalwarts of the mid-priced audio market, such as
Vandersteen, are trimming back their lower priced offerings and focusing
on the high priced offerings. This is because audiophiles in the age of
digital are quickly becoming dinosaurs and dying off whereas there will
always plenty of wealthy individuals looking for products to stroke
their boundless vanity. Just as now nothing says "You've arrived" better
than some German luxury car sitting in your driveway, soon a nice pair
of Wilson speakers sitting in your living room will also say that
"you've arrived", if they don't do that already.

One thing I've learned in my time on earth is there is never a shortage
of handmaidens to the wealthy. And now many once respectable audio
publications exist simply to stoke the flames of vanity that surround
the super rich. I know that my ranting is both off topic and
particularly silly in thread about a $175 tweak but based on the posts
of several of the self professed audiophiles drunk on audiophile
kool-aid I think these words need to be written. Truly a sad state of
affairs.
