I bought a Garmin 190 some time ago from a dealer in Adelaide. This GPS has a built in VHF radio and I thought it would be good to have both in the one unit. It cost a little less than a 92 and Icom.
However, it wouldn't run for more than an hour and a half on batteries and had no way of connecting it to the glider's batteries (no external power cable). The Adelaide dealer couldn't help me so I contacted Garmin directly. After a bit of back and forwards discussion, they announced my GPS was not capable of being used in the glider as I had intended and that I should send my unit to them in the US. I did this and they sent me back a shiny new GPS 195 with the map display and all the power and data cables I needed. Problem was - it had a US database. When I pointed this out, another package arrived with the Asia-Pacific cartridge. This unit has been brilliant! I'm very happy with my experiences with Garmin -Cath -- -- * You are subscribed to the aus-soaring mailing list. * To Unsubscribe: send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] * with "unsubscribe aus-soaring" in the body of the message * or with "help" in the body of the message for more information.
