No it was sure reported but the guy would say nothing and has totally
dissapeared and inspite of many letters inc GFA RTO ops he did not respond.
It is my spies overseas revealed the full story 18 months later when one
called in to see me - He is chief Pilot with another smaller Asian Airline
and was stunned to say the least that he had been flying - but as I say he
had a Valid CASA PRIVATE MEDICAL - There should be a world wide link for
CASA so as they find out he lost his ATPL in another country. The Oz system
did not pick it up and he said nothing. I am wild because we lost a glider
with income till a replacement could be found because of a shady "747 ex
airline pilot"

Hello Ian,
When you say "has never been reported" do you mean that no-one ever
reported
it to ATSB or GFA, or that there was no public report of the findings of
either of those bodies?

Well I will add to accident of falke here a few years ago that has never
been reported - He was a recently retired Airline Captain with a well know
Asian airline in a B747-400 and could not hold down an ATPL medical but
some
how got an OZ PPL medical and nothing mentioned in those columns down RHS
(used to be there) Stress ECG, hearing etc. - I thought this strange but
was
not certain till I asked others with similar background. He was on a
perpect circuit - I was the only whitness- and then went 45deg to the
ground.
Lessons to others
1 Always check and understand a CASA Medical and if in doubt ASK NOW and
not
when the guy throws it across the table to you!!
2. Always use safety slow release foam for seat cushions IN ALL GLIDERS
3. Think we need a better standard of medical standards even if it is done
by your own Doctor - There should be a guideline sheet for a doctor of go
to
a DAME and get his medical (this is not from this accident but just my
observation of the wide variation when your local doctor - I had one pilot
whose own doctor did not even have him pee into the bottle!!!! - it was
just
a good looking pice of paper with a signature!!)
While on accidents I understand the insurance co has increased excesses on
all motor gliders by a huge amount on June 1 but I believe over 80% on the
recent motor glider accidents have involved retractable motor gliders
(mostly Ximangos and S10) so why in hell don't they make them pay for
their
high level of claims
So thats all

Maybe I've missed something earlier in this thread..........
I flew hang Gliders for 20 years, and learnt a hell of a lot from
reading the accident reports in what was then "SkySailor"
If it's good enough for HG's and paragliders, and even trikes to publish
accidents and incidents, is there an LEGAL reason why GFA doesn't report
the same on a monthly basis?
Is there anyone of authority who can answer this???
Cheers
Mark Fisher
