Barely above stall speed :-(( I have a small update or two. #1. I got this today from the SPOT customer service: Thank you for your e-mail to our Customer Service team. We are currently experiencing a high volume of calls and emails which may result in a delay in receiving a response to your request. #2. I changed the phone numbers back to the full Aussie number without the prefix. So the number entered is 610428123456. This works! In fact it worked in about 15 seconds. With the SPOT on the balcony I got the msg by the time I ran up to the computer. I am not sure if there is any connection between msg 1 and msg 2, but I tried the version without the + sign for sure. And their help people never offered this as a solution. It's a shame it did not work last week, but... They say in the extructions that the SPOT device should face logo upwards. In my glider it was hanging from the supplied caribiner in the cockpit. So in right hand thermals (in which I spent an inordinate amount of time last week) the device should have been pointing about 45ยบ upwards with not very good results. Perhaps it is necessary to aim it properly upwards and flat. I may construct some velcro hold down on my hat since there are not many other places left. I know that a Kiwi company made some neat carbon fibre whip aerials a while ago... strong, light, good looking and useless because the carbon screened the radio signals. So it may be that a carbon fuse on a sailplane insulates in a way a car body does not. I'm scratching my head on this one though! On the test run in the car the SPOT was tucked in a shelf in the dash and not very exposed to the rays. Anyway, 50% up.
