Agreed that the top margin is a bit too narrow. 2.5cm is good.

Ok, I just asked because I thought there was a menu or some other
entry I was missing. It is good to cover it in the template howto
anyway.

OK. In general I would prefer to continue using the frame around the
picture so the figure+caption is self contained and can be floated
more easily. I realized that by adjusting the vertical orientation of
the frame anchored to a paragraph unchecking the "follow text flow"
box you can reduce very easily the white spaces at the end of the page
still with a margin of flexibility in case you insert/remove a couple
of lines or more.
