1) do we really need a 1.91cm (3/4 in) bottom border?

No, we don't need such a big one. I thought I had reduced that already, but
apparently the change didn't get into the template. What margin would you
suggest?

If we want to stay with inches, maybe 1/2 inc (1.27cm), if instead we are
prepared to make the big jump to metric, then I would suggest 1.50cm for top
& bottom, 2.5 for left and right margin.

 2) have we reached a decision on the title page layout? Why not going for
some shameless self promotion sticking a big OOoAuthors logo + feather
also
on the title page?

I think that having the OOoAuthors logo on the title page would make it far
too cluttered. The logo in the footer of the copyright page should suffice.

I forgot about the footer in the copyright page... I agree that this is
enough.

 3) I have no strong feeling, but I like the idea of including some of the
copyright headings in the ToC.

Maybe just the "Copyright" heading?

Yes, that should be enough. We will need to create a new style for the other
OOoHeading2-like headings unless there is an easy way to exclude them from
the ToC.

 4) Note (but that's not important) that we did not need to define a
OOoToCHead style as we could have used the facility of OOo to add a title
to
the ToC with a user defined style (OOoHeading1 in this case).

I think I originally made it the way it is (with "Contents" being a
separate paragraph in the file, not part of the ToC field itself) because
there was some problem with the ToC not always starting on a new page like
it should. That was a long time ago and so it's quite possible that whatever
was causing that problem is no longer an issue.

I think it is a very minor thing, I was just curious as to why the ToC title
was not used.

I have spotted a slight mistake immediately: the very first paragraph is
set
for English UK and I think I have seen flickering on the screen while
scrolling the document an English Australia in the status bar.

I keep forgetting to check all that and fix any problems. Sorry.

The English UK in the first paragraph is my fault :-)

To finish one question on captions and one on the OOoFigure style
1) How do you insert a caption without the frame as it was done in the only
figure in the template document?
2) Should OOoFigure be centred? it works fine as long as you place the
caption in a frame with the picture, if not it is very hard to align the
caption to the figure

Michele

Using points (1/72 of an inch) allows easier manipulations with formatting and points has the greatest resolution (smallest size--greatest precision) of those units available in OOo. BTW, I noticed that OOo only sets (and retains) to the nearest 0.1 point, whereas MS Word displays greater resolution than 0.1 point. If one sets a value in OOo to 2.99 or 3.01 points, it will be SAVED to 3.0.

I prefer using the point as the unit of measurement due to its acceptance in publishing elsewhere, including Europe, and having it correlate to the point sizing in typefaces. Which significant publishing segment or authority refers to font sizes in units such as mm or cm?
