Anyway, I added a sentence in the Zoom section, and a paragraph and
picture relating to toolbar customization. Not sure it was necessary,
but it seemed appropriate. Let me know what you think.
My proposal was to move all of the customisation info into a new
Appendix B (along with whatever info on extensions we want to
include), so depending on the level of detail in what you added, it
may or may not be appropriate here. I'll have a look.
That's what I'm doing for the Getting Started book. I've pulled the
relevant bits out of other chapters, but I haven't written that
Appendix yet. The appendixes in GS and WG will probably be very
similar, though the examples might differ.
If you'd like to write a draft of one or both of the proposed new
appendix, I encourage you to do so. :-) It would also involve moving
the keyboard customisation info from the existing Appendix A, and
there may be some other topics scattered through the book, or missing
entirely, that should go into a new Appendix B.
Of course, if everyone else involved thinks this is a bad idea, we can
ditch it. But my feeling was that having the customisation info
scattered through the book isn't the best way to handle it. Yes, we
should leave a sentence or paragraph in relevant places, with a
pointer to the location of the details, but move all the details to
one spot.
I also found that the discussion on rolling up floating toolbars may
have been accidentally removed between versions *20080715 and *20080716,
with the entry still remaining in the Table of Contents. So I just
copied the original text from *20080715 back in place and fixed the
pagination in the contents to coincide with the new paragraph on toolbar
customization.
Not accidental. I had removed that section deliberately, because it
appears to depend on the operating system, and is not something to do
with OOo at all. But I failed to update the ToC after removing the
section.
I also have Chapter 2 checked out, and will start on it in the next day
or so and upload any feedback.
FYI, that chapter deliberately does not include all of the setup info
in the general OOo section of Tools > Options, only those things that
I considered particularly relevant to Writer. Of course, if you think
I've left out something important, please feel free to suggest adding
it. :-)
