The usual manner to create a fresh file from a template is to open the
template via the File > New... menu and then immediately perform a Save
as... If the template has some visible contents, then you could delete
those at some point before the completion of the new file's content
revision.
Typical templates do not contain visible contents or just a minimal
amount--that should be retained. Others might contain instructions that
are meant to be deleted, all at once (Ctrl-A and backspace/delete) or in
part.
