I don't see why we should modify names in our templates (which are for
our own internal use) to be consistent with MSWord (2007 or any other
version). If someone (yourself, for example) wishes to adapt our
template for more general use, they can easily change the style names
to suit their own preferences or needs.

It's just that Word already has defaults/predefines for various flavors
of "Emphasis". Maintaining parallelism with those would be easier to
remember or to apply for those who might utilize our template(s) for
their own personal use.
But, there should be no attempt to substitute Word's Normal or Strong
for OOo's Default and Strong Emphasis paragraph styles, respectively.
But OOo only has one Emphasis default, whereas Word has three (or more)
Emphasis defaults. I think--Emphasis, Intense Emphasis, and Subtle
Emphasis--all italic. Having a couple extra "Emphasis" styles couldn't
hurt, and they might even come in handy.
