so I think this deals with the specularPhongShader that compose your phongbitmapmaterial. is the inside of the shield a volume or composed of a simple surface ??? if it's a volume, how sick (very, much, not so much, like an hotdog,...) ?? are you sure you don"t have double skinned objects(you now two polygone when you need one... ???
