That's good news, looking forward with anticipation.

My main worry is that Adobe are probably not working closely with
opensource 3d teams so effort may end up being replicated and
features implemented in a not so useful way. Lets hope the Away
team are being consulted, but it would be reassuring if we could
know that anything we are creating with Away3d won't be completely
obsoleted by the new flashplayer.
Unity3D... yer I am sure it's good ( have seen some demos ) but
it's not yet a standard player so not suitable for typical web
clients, its hard enough to get them to accept flash let alone a
lesser known plugin.

I am too skeptical on an idea that the upcoming fp updates will be
even close to Unity3d (just for a comparison) in the near or not
so near future. Also even if it will bring some formidable
improvements in 3d rendering capabilities I still believe that you
will have to write your own 3d engne or use such great libs like
Away3D ;))
P.S
But if you look for some hard core 3d engine for the web I would
recommend Unity3D ( I hope I will not get banned from here after
these words. Away dudes! I know this is not your fault but of
Adobe ;)) )

I was just wondering if anyone knows if pending player changes are
going to fit with Away3d engine, I am only interested from project
planning perspective as it can obviously effect decisions we make,
my guess is that it will allow away3d to be even better, but I
don't entirely trust Adobe not to mess up and just make coding
more tricky and no doubt they may try to mix it with flex with
adverse effects... always cynical ( still hoping they will put the
properties panel back to CS3 ) :)
