Paul G,

I've looked 3 times. Nada.

I looked down the column for Povoacao, checking for either Matriz, Mae de
Deus, or Lomba anything (since it's squishy). Then I rechecked down the
destination column for Sandwich or Honolulu. I also checked the top and
bottom of each page, looking at the passenger number, making sure that they
were chronological and no page was skipped. Nothing. It looks like the
bulk of people going to Hawaii end here, so you'd have to search backwards:

Povoacao to Ponta Delgada is about 40 or 50 miles, I'd say. When I went to
Sao Miguel with Shirley Allegre, we stayed in Ponta Delgada. We went to a
festa in Ponta Garca (not quite as far as Povoacao). I don't remember what
it took by taxi. 45 minutes? An hour? One way. It was difficult for us
to find a taxi to take us back home at night.

The point of my story is that I'm really thinking that in 1906, a family
had to get a ride there and it wasn't a taxi. They didn't go there days
and days before. Yet I can't find your family. Could Manuel have gone by
himself to register his family? Maybe, but I don't know what the protocol
was. Maybe the whole family had to be there, maybe just the head.

You'll have to chalk this one up to space aliens somehow put your family on
that ship. At least for now.

I'm wondering by the child, Manuel, the AR number. AR is Alien
Registration in the naturalization packet world. Wonder if Manuel ever
naturalized and they went back to cross-reference this HI passenger
manifest.
