Aaron, which child do you descend from? Thanks for the records on Maria da
Costa. Her husband died 5 days after they married? How sad!

Eliseu, thank you for the new information you provided. Tonight, I printed
out the first two generations of Miguel do Monte and his myriad of wives.
I am going to go through and check each baptismal to see who the parents
are and where they claim to be from. As I said early Joze Furtado's
parents, Miguel do Monte and Thereza Furtado, are reported as being from
Achada. I looked up Andre do Monte born 1722 son of Miguel do Monte of
Achadinha and Maria Furtado of Achada; and Miguel do Monte born 1734 son of
Miguel do Monte of Achadinha and Maria da Costa of Nordestinho.

This what I am beginning to think. I think Miguel do Monte I married 3
times to Maria Furtada, Maria da Costa, and Thereza Furtado. I think the
marriage in Faial de Terra is his. Then I think I have too many sons name
Miguel do Monte. Unless I find a baptismal for Miguel do Monte born to
Thereza Furtado ca 1720, I will assume I added this extra Miguel do Monte
in error. If I eliminate him, then I think the parents of my Joze Furtado
who married Antonia Pimentel, is the son of Miguel do Monte I and Maria
Furtada. Given the death records that I found in the 1800s, I believe this
Miguel do Monte also married someone named Thereza Furtada, both of them of
Achada. The ages point to this Migeul do Monte. I think this is the Miguel
do Monte that John wrote of born in 1734 to Miguel do Monte I and Maria da
Costa. If there was no Miguel do Monte born to the first marriage, then
there is no way the Miguel do Monte born in 1734 could have married in
1744. Where their marriage is, I am not sure. Of course, we might find
some record that completely screws up my hypothesis. LOL

Anyway, that is my thinking at this point. Does it sound plausible?
