It is a single point from which to update all your apps. The more apps you have
in it, the better.

Apple is not deciding anything. Developers set their own pricing.

Here's the current scenario, repeated many times:
1) Launch app I want to use right now
2) Hey look, an update
2.1) OK, fine, update now
2.1.1) Wait for download
2.1.2) Click to complete
2.1.3) relaunch app
2.2) Look, I'm trying to work here
2.2.1) Try and remember to update later
Now, repeat that for 20 or 30 apps, and throw in a few that don't use sparkle,
so you have to download the updater, run the installer, &c.

The difference is all the apps will get updated all at once and I won't have to
do an upgrade dance for each and every one.
