Makes two of us!   Forgive me for my comment - I felt a bit neglected!

I've just discovered something rather strange,  though it probably doesn't help solve my
problem.

I thought I'd better get rid of the growing number of suspended J904 tasks,  ie the 32kB residues of jconsole.exe & jqt.exe left after attempts to open them. So I did a Windows Shut Down followed by power on,   rather than a mere Restart.  On opening Task Manager,  I was surprised to
find the lurking hulks were all still there!

So I've just tried a hard stop,  ie pressing the ON button for several seconds.  On power on, those ghost processes had indeed disappeared.  BUT - Jqt and jconsole still don't open properly;
they still end up in a suspended state.

Cheers,

Mike

The thing is,  the previous J904 betas have been fine - apart from a transient problem

Starting jconsole with admin privileges briefly shows a window which then disappears. You mentioned separately trying to load an empty profile - what does that entail? How is it different from Bill's suggestion,  ie jconsole.exe -jprofile - though he does describe
that as starting with an empty profile.

I was hoping for some comments from Chris or possibly Henry, but I expect they're busy
with other stuff.

Thanks,

Wait... you can't start jconsole?

That sounds like a serious problem, and possibly a permissions problem.

I've run into various parts of Windows failing in various ways (though
whether that was sabotage or design is not apparent to me... but it
has made me very cautious about upgrading to Windows 11. Today, for
example, the problem I have been fighting is mouse events not going to
the active window but instead going to some arbitrary different
window. With different kinds of mouse events going to different
windows.)

And, debugging these things is difficult -- I lack the tools. And,
support forums seem to also be populated mostly with people who lack
the tools.

Anyways... I would first focus on the problem of getting jconsole to run.

I hope this helps,
