Oleg,

I thought I had changed it, but I hadn't gotten past
an error that put me off. This time around, I succeeded
and like the appearance much better.

Eric, wouldn't it make sense to have Mac OS X as the
default appearance for Mac OS X installs??

But now (and maybe this is unrelated and just something
new in ubeta) clicking on Help doesn't launch a browser
as it used to.... Also I notice a finger action that
further confounds me - the various key shortcuts such
as <cmd><shift>n to get NB. inserted in the session cause
it to be displayed as selected text, so any normal key
causes it to be replaced by that key value. Furthermore
if I hit a right arrow to deselect the NB. control moves
to the next line of the input area. This is all part of
(what I consider) the strange behaviors of ijx panes
in the Mac version.

Anyway, thanks again for your insights and persistence.

No, it's not. The whole J menu is in the top system menu bar.

Have you selected "Mac OS X" for Look and Feel under
Java Settings in Configure dialog?

In J's case, the only thing on that bar is the Apple and the
