UGH. 74 explains why you don't like your linux fonts but means my hoped for simple kludge fix of mapping 72 to 96 won't work.

Do you know where your 74 came from or how to change it? If you changed it to 96 you would see the fonts you want.

I see 2 choices:

1. Linux users must do whatever is necessary to set appropriate dpi as reported by Java getScreenResolution or

2. I extend the Mac style kludge for linux with somthing like
dpi=(islinux&&dpi>=72&&dpi<=96)?96:dpi

For very small screens or very large screens we really do want to use the dpi as set by the user/system so it is not acceptable to just always jam to 96.
