Not necessarily; two things to think about: (a) "List albums by Band" LMS can be configured to show "band". If no specific album artist tag is defined, "band" is displayed. i.e. when displaying "<album> by <artist>" artist is: 1. The Album Artist if one is defined. 2. Otherwise a band name if "list albums by band" is ticked. 3. Otherwise the list of artists appearing on every song on an album. The scanner could take on this logic; if "List albums by band" is ticked in settings, then set the album artist to the band name instead of artist name (and if there are multiple, make it "Various Artists"). However, the side effect of this is that changing the option would require a full rescan to recalculate the album artist for every album. (b) There can be multiple album artists for an album There can be a set of artists on every track of an album. e.g. an album by "Robert Plant" and "Jimmy Page". All songs on the album tagged with the two artists. This is not a compilation; the album can be found by browsing to either artist, so both are "album artists". I often tag like this. I don't like to create an artist called "Robert Plant and Jimmy Page"; I want both to be descrete artists that I can browse to see a list of their works. But I do add a Band "Page & Plant" and show this as the album artist label. So I would see "No Quarter by Page & Plant", but still be able to browse from this into "Robert Plant" or "Jimmy Page". The album artist(s) would be "Robert Plant", "Jimmy Page". _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
